Wind power is the world 's fastest growing energy source. At the end of 2009, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 159 gig watts which is about 2% of worldwide electricity. By 2020, 12% of the world 's demand of electricity will be produced by wind.
Suzlon Energy Limited is 3rd largest manufacturer of wind turbine in the world. The company is an innovator in wind technology and a driving force in the development of the wind power industry, with installations all across the world.
Suzlon is using a new breed of "Keramic" optical fibre cable in Windmill farm networking which improves operational management, visibility and access to key data. This optical fibre cable networking provides real-time data capture to monitor wind turbine uptime, performance and power output - even from remote locations. This data is used to track efficiency and trends, plan maintenance schedules, and report the power produced and predictive information to the Independent System Operator critical to "Smart Grid" technology. Suzlon 's 2000 windmills have been networked using 3000 km of "Keramic" optical fibre cable.
